FFTT Frames : Community art loan program

BACKGROUND

Forest for the Trees, a nonprofit arts organization, launched the framed public art initiative to transform urban spaces into accessible, open-air galleries. By installing framed contemporary artworks on the exteriors of buildings, this program fosters public engagement with art, turning everyday locations into cultural landmarks. The initiative ensures that contemporary art reaches a broad audience, enhancing the visual landscape of public spaces while encouraging artistic appreciation.
Beyond public display, the program fosters a dynamic interaction between artists and the community. Each artwork is created on-site, inviting public engagement and reinforcing the presence of working artists in our neighborhoods. The process of creating art in public spaces makes the experience more inclusive and immersive. By involving local artisans in fabrication and framing, the initiative also supports artistic craftsmanship and contributes to the broader cultural ecosystem.
This initiative also provides opportunities for the long-term placement of artworks in public interiors, allowing pieces to find a permanent home after their initial exterior display. By periodically rotating and offering artworks for purchase, Forest for the Trees ensures continuous engagement with new artistic perspectives while supporting artists beyond the CREATION phase.
